An apprenticeship is a work-based education option, combining training with real-world work. As an apprentice, you'll work a paid job with a company in the area you want to work in, whilst also studying for a qualification. Apprenticeships are designed to be flexible so the qualifications offered by the employer may vary.
Apprenticeships can start at age 16 and are offered at different levels – from Level 2 to a Degree Apprenticeship.
The costs of your education are covered by the employing company. Apprenticeships can take 1 to 5 years to complete, depending on the level.
There are more than 500 different types of apprenticeships available across more than 80 industry sectors, and this is increasing all the time.
