Affordability

We have carefully considered the DFE guidance ‘cost of school uniform’ https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cost-of-school-uniforms/cost-of-school-uniforms

and have taken the following steps:

  • Sew-on badges are available from Baker and Son, these can be sewn onto a plain navy-blue blazer rather than purchasing the blazer as a complete item.
  • We have kept the use of branded items to a minimum.
  • The school’s uniform policy is published on the school’s website and is available for all parents, including parents of prospective pupils.
  • We ensure that second-hand uniforms are available for parents to acquire.
  • Information on second-hand uniforms is clear for parents of current and prospective pupils and published on the school’s website.

Please note pre-loved uniform items can be obtained from our uniform ‘swap shop’ for a voluntary donation.  Please email reception@charlton.uk.com for further details.

Breaches of Uniform

Breaches of uniform may constitute: (examples only) Incorrect footwear, Non regulation skirt or trousers, Shaved patterns or extreme hairstyles, Jewellery, piercings other than in ear lobes, non-natural hair colour, bracelets or charity bands.

For such breaches students will be deemed to have removed themselves from mainstream school until their appearance is deemed acceptable. For repeated instances the School Exclusion Policy may then be applied.

Temporary breaches of uniform must be supported by a parental signed note. The note must also be countersigned by the student’s Pastoral Manager. For repeated instances the School Behaviour Policy may then be applied.

If there are persistent cases of uniform breach, then a student may be placed in the Behaviour Recovery Room or in another suitable location away from mainstream lessons depending on room availability.

Possible reasons for not authorising permission may be as follows; forged note, deliberate attempt to deceive or violate the rules. There may be other reasons that will apply depending on particular circumstances.

Skirts, Trousers and Hoodies

The approved skirt is a black knee length pleated design. This must not be tight fitting and the hem of the skirt must be on the knee.

Trousers must be straight leg only. Skinny fit or tight trousers are not acceptable.

Hoodies are not permitted in school, no layers other than the Navy V-neck pullover with school crest are permitted under the school blazer.
