Charlton School

A message from the Principal 14/06/2024

I am writing to confirm the arrangements for events as we run up to the summer holidays and provide some school updates.

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to confirm the arrangements for events as we run up to the summer holidays and provide some school updates.

Friday 5th July:   School Closed to all students due to staff professional development day.

Friday 12th July: Charltonbury Festival and non-school uniform day.

Friday 19th July: Last Day of Term - 1:00pm finish and inter-form sports.

On Friday 5th July, the school is closed to all students.  This is the final staff professional training day of the year.  The school reception will not be staffed and so there will be no telephone calls taken on the day.

We are holding our annual arts festival, Charltonbury, on Friday 12th July. Doors open from 4:00pm with our primary partners performing first followed by acts from Charlton, closing at 8:00pm.  There will be our usual food and craft stalls, raffles and inflatables. Tickets are £2 in advance or £2.50 on the door.  To raise further funds for good causes, we will be holding a non-school uniform day during the school day on Friday 12th July, at the cost of £1 payable on the day.

On the last day of term, Friday 19th July, we will be finishing at the earlier time of 1:00pm, all students will need to leave site at this time.  A food service will be available to students during the day.  The 103 and 104 bus routes will be replaced by A-Star Transport who have again agreed to take students from our rural community home at this time to prevent them having to wait until after our normal school closure time. These coaches will be in the layby on Whitchurch Road and not the public service layby on Apley Avenue.

We are returning to holding an inter-form sports competition on the last day of term and to support this, all students are invited to wear PE kit on the day.

Eagle eyed members of our school community will have noticed a change to the school email addresses to bring us in line with other schools in the Learning Community Trust. Student email addresses have changed to firstname.surname@students.lct.education and staff email accounts have changed and take the form of firstname.surname@lct.education. The old Charlton email addresses will still receive emails until October half-term and the school will work to migrate all logins to the new email during this time.

School Tie

A reminder that the transition to move to the new Year group tie colour comes to an end, and all students need to be wearing to correct tie in September that corresponds to their year group:

  • Year 7 - Blue
  • Year 8 - Purple
  • Year 9 - Red
  • Year 10 - Yellow
  • Year 11 - Green

As always seems to be the way at Charlton, we have a very busy few weeks with many events to look forward to before we break up.  Please encourage your child to take part as fully as they can, to make the most of all Charlton has to offer.

Yours faithfully

Mr McNaughton

Principal
