On Thursday the 14th of October, we held our annual Harvest Festival assembly at Charlton School. This year the assembly was virtual and watched by students in their form rooms via the interactive screens. Students were asked to support the event by donating food or toiletries, which will be donated to Telford Crisis Support and the Learning Communities Trust Food Share Project.
Telford Crisis Support is a food bank which has operated within Telford and Wrekin for 7 years. They are a charity that provides for families in need of support, with emergency food and toiletries. A crisis can happen to anyone at any time and the charity supports people who, through no fault of their own, need help. Tinned produce, toiletries and packet goods were donated by students and their families. Students received house points for any donations given to support the charities.
Mr McNaughton, school principal said ‘At Charlton we pride ourselves in partnership. We have well established links with our local community and view partnerships with the local community partners and our families as central to our success, we make the most of these connections to enable our co-curricular provision to link wherever possible to our local and national community’. In addition to this Anna Vickers, assistant vice principal for Personal Development said ‘We recognise that financial circumstances of our own families are changing all the time, particularly because of the impact of COVID 19. We recognise the need to support our families and local community and provide support for things such as school uniform, putting our families in touch with local foodbanks and helping families to apply for free school meals should they become eligible. At this challenging time, it has never been more important to look after each other and offer support where we can.’
