Year 10 Assessments

We will be holding an assessment/mock period for all Year 10 students from Tuesday 22nd June – Monday 5th July.

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you and your families are keeping well, and you are enjoying being able to do more with the restrictions easing recently.

Can I first take the opportunity to thank you for your support with the Lesson 6 sessions we started for Year 10 after the Easter holidays.  These have been very well attended by the students to date, and I know from conversations with students and teachers that these have been very beneficial to address gaps in knowledge/skills.

As the Year 11 students will be leaving us on Friday 28th May after a rigorous 6 week assessment period, our focus will now be moving to Year 10.  We will be holding an assessment/mock period for all Year 10 students from Tuesday 22nd June – Monday 5th July.  During this time students will be sitting mock exams in the majority of their GCSE subjects which will provide us with a more up to date and accurate view of their current working at grades.  These exams will be taking place within the sports hall under formal exam conditions.

From Monday 21st June all Year 10 students will be starting school at 8.40am and entering via the back gate. They will then finish school at 2.50pm.

Linked to this document are the following documents to support you and the students during this time: (Students will be receiving a paper copy of these today).

  1. A list of the topics that will be covered by each of the exams during the assessment period
  2. A copy of the exam timetable
  3. Information for candidates for written examinations from JCQ

Morning exams:

When students have a morning exam they are to arrive at school promptly at 8:40am via the back gate and make their way to the sports hall, where they will be brought in for their exam.

Afternoon exams:

During the assessment period Year 10 will be having their lunch break from 12.20pm – 1.50pm which will allow them to make their way to the sports hall for the start of their exams at 2.00pm.  When afternoon exams have finished students will be released from the sports hall via the back gate.  There will be no lesson 6 sessions taking place for Year 10 during the assessment period.

Access arrangements:

Any students who are entitled to extra time, a reader, a scribe or a laptop will be provided with these for each examination in a separate room.  If you have any questions regarding access arrangements for your child please contact Mr Harris (SENCO).

It is our aim to provide students with their examination results the week beginning Monday 12th July via a results envelope.

Thank you in advance for your support during this assessment period, and if you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Mr James Foster

Vice Principal (Quality of Education)
