Year 10 Week of Work

Next week, schools across the nation are hosting a ‘Week of Work’ programme. The idea is to give students the opportunity to interact with employers and participate in lessons to substitute what would have been their work experience. Below is an overview of the programme and its intent. We have also attached the programme timetable for the week. All links needed for the Oak Academy lessons (along with the programme timetable) will be uploaded to your child’s Doddle account.

Dear Parents/Carers

Next week, schools across the nation are hosting a ‘Week of Work’ programme.  The idea is to give students the opportunity to interact with employers and participate in lessons to substitute what would have been their work experience.  Below is an overview of the programme and its intent.  We have also attached the programme timetable for the week.  All links needed for the Oak Academy lessons (along with the programme timetable) will be uploaded to your child’s Doddle account.

Introduction - ‘My Week of Work’

What is the programme about?

June is traditionally the time of year when many pupils across the country would take part in work experience. Whilst we know that is impossible to create a national week of work experience, a programme of activities which link to the work- place has been developed to support you and your learners during the week commencing 8th June 2020.

‘My Week of Work’ comprises of 20 lessons available via Oak National Academy (from 8.6.20). The lessons have been written by staff from Academies Education Trust (AET) with support from colleagues from The Careers and Enterprise Company. The lessons will support pupils to gain insight into the world of work through employer videos and resources There will be also be tasks set for pupils to complete each day to develop and showcase employability skills. The lessons will continue to be available after w/c 8 June 2020 via Oak National academy website.

If your child could record the activities and lessons they have completed as a project to bring back into school with them when we return and I will go through what they achieved with them to further support them in deciding their next career steps.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and I hope that you will support them through the week.  Additionally, I will keep uploading further useful resources into their ‘Citizenship’ section on Doddle to provide information to support them.  One example is a page of links for those students interested in becoming doctors, vets or working in dental to participate in virtual work experiences.

Please contact me if you require the links emailed to you or if you have any further queries

Yours faithfully
