Published examination results.
As I am sure you are aware, following the Government’s u-turn on Monday, these are the higher grade of either the Centre Assessed Grades the school have awarded you, or the standardised scores from the exam board.
Dear Students and Parents/Carers,
Please find enclosed your GCSE exam results, I am so sorry that we are unable to give you them in person and to celebrate with you.
As I am sure you are aware, following the Government’s u-turn on Monday, these are the higher grade of either the Centre Assessed Grades the school have awarded you, or the standardised scores from the exam board.
The exception to these are the Cambridge National Qualifications in Sport, iMedia and Engineering, these are Centre Assessed Grades only, the exam board standardised results will not be published until next week. We will inform you of any changes to the grades issued.
Unfortunately, late yesterday afternoon, Pearson Exam board withdrew all the BTEC grades nationally and requested these not to be shared with students. They are reviewing all the grades they issued and will regrade them as necessary to bring them in line with GCSE grades. As soon as we have these confirmed by Pearson, we will share them with you.
In producing our Centre Assessed Grades, we rigorously and robustly followed the processes asked of us by the Government, to generate a fair and accurate result set for individuals and your year group, based on all the evidence we have, whilst ensuring they are in line with the historical performance of the school.
This was done at the time in the knowledge that standardisation was intended to take place to ensure consistency across all schools. We were confident that the results we issued would have fallen within the tolerance levels and would see little, if any change.
We hope that the results enclosed allow you to progress to your chosen pathway. Having spoken with several of our local colleges they will do all they can to support you at this time.
The Government has produced a webpage to support students, including a helpline for students who did not get the grades they wanted. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/your-results-what-next
Should you have a query about your overall results, reception is open today until 2.30pm (Telephone 01952 386800), and members of the Senior Leadership Team are on site. We are unable to pass individual queries about results to specific subject areas, the Centre Assessed Grades have been determined and moderated by a group of staff, not just an individual teacher.
As you can see from the Ofqual guidance (link below), the Centre Assessed Grade cannot be appealed unless you believe there has been an administrative error or that there is a case of bias, discrimination, or malpractice. You cannot appeal the grades you receive based on your mock exam results, as these were taken into account in deciding your Centre Assessed Grade. After today, please email any queries to our Examinations Officer (details below).
You have the opportunity to sit the subjects you were entered for in Summer 2020, in the Autumn series, should you wish to do so. Most GCSE exams will take place between 2nd and 23rd November. Any exams you intend to sit will be held here at Charlton School, but please note that if you achieved a grade 3 or lower in Maths or English Language and are moving to a new school or college, these will be taken there.
If you believe you could achieve a higher grade than that awarded by the school and want the opportunity to sit the examinations, please email our Examinations Officer, jo.taylor1@charlton.uk.com by Friday 4th September, who will send you an application form to complete.
We sincerely hope that in the near future we will all be able to come back together to celebrate your achievements. Until then, please take care and I wish you the very best of luck for the future.
Yours faithfully
Andrew McNaughton
Principal
