Transition 2020
Welcome to Charlton School. We are delighted that you have chosen our school to support the education and development of your child over the next five years at what is a tremendously exciting time for the whole school community. We hope your child will be very happy at Charlton, and through our partnership working with you, we ensure a long and successful relationship with our school.
COVID 19 Update
We very much hope our transition programme will go ahead as planned. We are responding to the most recent information from the Department for Education in relation to the COVID 19 outbreak. Please be aware that this advice may affect some of the scheduled events. We aim to keep you updated as much as possible and thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented and difficult time.
We would like to invite your child to start their journey at Charlton School by joining us on our two-day transition programme, which will be on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th July. During this time, your child will be involved in a series of activities and lessons which will provide an opportunity for them to gain an insight into our school environment.
On Monday 6th July, children are asked to arrive at 9.00 am; and on the Tuesday by 8.40 am. All children are asked to make their way down the main access road towards the Sports Hall. Tutors and assigned Student Leaders will greet them and gather together in Tutor Groups on the adjacent hard standing area. If you are collecting your child from school at the end of the day, please come to the Sports Hall at 3.00 pm.
Your child should come in their primary school uniform but bring their P.E. kit on the relevant day. In line with our school policy and to support Health and Safety procedures linked to the program of activities, children shouldn’t wear any jewellery other than a single pair of plain silver or gold stud earrings.
The timetable for the two days plus a letter informing you of which tutor group your child has been allocated will be sent to you nearer the time. Your child may either bring a packed lunch or buy a meal from the school canteen for an approximate cost of £2.40. If your child has free school dinners, they will be issued with a lunch pass.
An informal Coffee Morning will be held between 9.15 am and 10.30 am on Monday 6th July to welcome our new parents and to answer any general questions. Please also find attached a flow chart of transition activities and some frequently asked questions for September which may be of interest. Further information will be sent to you in the welcome pack.
To further support the transition process, there will be a Parent Partnership Evening on Monday 6th July from 5.00 pm to 8.30 pm. Students and Parents will have the opportunity to have an individual meeting with their child’s Form Tutor as well as being able to meet other key staff. Ideally we would like all parents to attend so you do not miss information to help with your child’s transition.
We will also be running a Summer School from Monday 17th to Wednesday 19th August (3 days). It will be an opportunity for students to get to know each other and become familiar with the school site.
During next term we will send out our welcome pack. We please ask that upon receipt you complete the Admission Forms, containing the Home School Agreement, and return them to the school as soon as possible.
We look forward to meeting with you and wish your child every happiness and success. Should you have any queries or wish to give us any information concerning your child, please contact the school.
